Christopher R. Profitt Scholarship
Christopher Profitt was committed to the Spanish language and culture. His passion for the language began at Brookville High School. A 1977 graduate of BHS, he studied Spanish all four years of high school. He was first exposed to the Spanish culture as a BHS exchange student in Mexico the summer of his junior year.
Christopher was born October 5, 1959, to Ralph and Alta Profitt. Four years later, Jennifer, a sister and life-long friend, was born. Christopher lived in Franklin County with his family through his high school years. He received a bachelorís degree from Edgecliff College and went on to get his Masters Degree at Xavier University. Relocating to the Cincinnati area, he taught Spanish at Eastwood Paidia Schools and was an adjunct professor at Xavier University. He also served as a Spanish interpreter for his community and the court system. He spent time vacationing in San Miguel, Mexico and moved there after his retirement from teaching. Christopher passed away on August 26, 2006.
To honor Christopherís devotion to the Spanish culture, his family has established an endowment in the Franklin County Community Foundation with memorials given in his name. Each year after the Christopher R. Profitt Exchange Student Endowment reaches $5,000, the income from the fund will be used for a scholarship for a junior at Franklin County High School who will be participating in the exchange student program in a Spanish-speaking country. The scholarship is used to help cover the studentís expenses while in the program.
