Maury & Mary Schott Memorial Scholarship
Golf was Maury Schott’s third love. His wife Mary was first, his daughter Michelle and her family, second, and golf, third. It was with this in mind that Mary and Michelle made the decision to create The Maury Schott Memorial Scholarship Endowment in the Franklin County Community Foundation.
Maury Schott was born December 1, 1933 to Maurice and Mildred Dudley Schott. On September 3, 1955, he married the former Mary F. Andres in St. Leon, Indiana. Maury owned and worked at Schott remodeling and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Through their 49 years of marriage, Maury, Mary and later, their daughter Michelle, grew to love the game of golf. Maury played golf regularly. Weather and his health permitting, he played every day, after his retirement.
As his grandchildren grew old enough to begin playing, Maury set out to pass his love of the game on to them. He took them golfing with him as often as he could. His passion for the game will live on through them. His grandsons, Scott and Matt, play on the FCHS golf team. Recently, Scott was named to the All-state Academic Team. Molly, his granddaughter, is becoming more interested in golf, although her favorite sports are basketball and volleyball.
Each year after the Schott fund reaches $5,000, the income from the fund will be used for two scholarships to be used fore college expenses. The two scholarships will be granted to a male and female who have been members of the FCHS Golf team. "I just know this is what Maury would want", said his wife, Mary. "Playing golf got him through some of the toughest times in his life."
Note: After Mary passed away in 2014, her name was added to the Endowment.
